CHANDIGARH, Feb 12: The 18th annual convention of the Society for Information Science was inaugurated at the IMTECH auditorium in Sector 35 today.A conference on "Sharing information resources through networking was also held at the occasion. The inaugural address was delivered by the Deputy Director General of the National Informatics Centre, Dr N Vijyaditya.
He expressed his vision of human beings developing on the banks of information super high ways in the coming times. He stated "imagination and intuition" as the two key components of the virtual world that was coming to age in the 21st century.
Dr Vijyaditya further remarked that instead of the development of the hardware or software, it is the development of the information context that will come up as the future need. He added that industries of the future shall be service-oriented rather than product-oriented. Dr Usha Mujoo-Munshi and Dr Naresh Kumar were conferred fellowships of the SIS on the occasion.
