Sufficient proof match-fixing exists: Qayyum

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, FEB 23: Pakistan judge inquiring into the allegations of match-fixing and betting against country's leading players has said he would be recommending life ban on the guilty as he has got `sufficient evidence' to substantiate the charges.

``I have prima facie evidence and based on the evidence I'm fully satisfied match-fixing is going on,'' Justice Malik Mohammed Qayyum of Lahore High Court told Star News in an interview telecast today.

Qayyum said though his scope of inquiry was limited to Pakistan, the evidence with him suggest that the entire match- fixing business started in India when Asif Iqbal led the side here.

``It is interesting that every Pakistani captain since Imran Khan and almost all managers have said their players were involved in match-fixing,'' Qayyum said.

The judge said the report was in its final stages and he would hand it over to the government next month. On specific accusations, the judge said in many cases the ``evidence is of a very direct nature.'' ``I havereceived direct evidence of Salim Malik's involvement in match-fixing. The accusations against him have been corroborated by many others," Justice Qayyum said.
