Janakpuri businessman shot at

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, February 24: Four unidentified youths shot at a buisnessman in Janakpuri this morning and robbed him of cellphones worth nearly Rs 60,000. The businessman, Sanjay Bhagat, has been admitted in Bhagat Hospital.

Around 11.15 a.m., Bhagat was in his shop on the ground-floor of his house, when two youths came asking for cellphones. They reportedly said they were interested in buying three to four instruments.

Even as Bhagat's two salesmen displayed a couple of cellphones on the counter, two more youths walked in the from the rear entrance of the shop. They reportedly whipped out revolvers and asked Bhagat to hand over the cash. The other two youths who had come earlier, meanwhile, attacked the salesman. After tying their hands, they locked the salesmen up in a bathroom.

The police say Bhagat attempted to put up a resistance, but the youths retaliated by firing from their country-made revolvers. Bhagat sustained injuries on his left leg.

The youths then picked up as many cellphones they could get their hands on and fled the spot. According to Bhagat's estimate, at least eight instruments are missing.

Bhagat's relatives came rushing downstairs, but the youths had escaped by then. The police say the salesmen recalled seeing the youths coming on foot. And they made their getaway on foot as well.

DCP (west) Uday Sahay says: ``It is possible that some insiders or previous employees are involved in the incident. The robbers seemed to be aware of the layout of the shop and entrances''.

In a separate incident, also in west Delhi, an ex-employee of a restaurant in Punjabi Bagh allegedly stabbed his former employer. The police say Ashok, who had worked as a waiter in the restaurant, wanted to take revenge for being sacked from his job three years ago.

Today, around 11.30 a.m., Ashok, accompanied by three friends accosted his former employer Vikas Gupta at a function. They reportedly stabbed Gupta on the head, chest and stomach and fled the spot. Gupta has been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder and are looking for Ashok and his friends.
