Ramesh, Dravid lead Indian run-feast
There was cheer and joy in the Indian camp on the first day of the second league match of the Asian Test Cricket championship in Colombo on Wednesday. Left-hander Sadagoppan Ramesh stroked away to his maiden century (143) while Rahul Dravid (107) continued his tremendous run-spree outside the country. The two stitched a record 232 runs for the second wicket against Sri Lanka to make it a happy day for India. Spirited India rallied majestically from a two-goal deficit to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan 3-2 in a closely fought final tie of the nine-match hockey series in Lahore on Wednesday. Pakistan, however, won the double-leg series 6-3. The Indians came out fighting after being down 0-2 at the half-time and struck through Dilip Tirkey (37th), Baljit Singh Saini (53rd) and Baljit Singh Dhillon (66th) to end the annual series on a winning note.
ACB draws flak
Shane Warne and Mark Waugh should have been suspended for taking money from a bookmaker, according to the independent lawyer who investigated allegations of bribery and match-fixing in Australian cricket. Rob O'Regan said on Wednesday the Test pair should have been banned after the Australian Cricket Board (ACB) learnt they had sold information to an illegal Indian bookmaker during a limited overs tournament in Sri Lanka in 1994.
