Panel to seek employees' suggestions

Punjab University Non-Teaching Employees Federation has threatened mass agitation if their long pending demands are "further delayed by the authorities". The Federation has been demanding that the fixed medical allowance be made at par with Punjab government and the Career Progressive Scheme be duly implemented.
Hunger strike enters second day
The hunger strike of PUCSC president D.P.S. Randhawa entered the second day today. Randhawa is demanding withdrawal of entertainment tax on movies, free bus passes for students and separate bus service for girl students. Randhawa said that if the demands were not accepted by Sunday SOPU would go on strike on Monday. About 50 students of PU today skipped meals in support of the demand.
French plays, skits staged
French Society of Government College of Girls, Sector 11 today organised a colourful function in which skits and dramas in French were staged. The function was presided over by D.S. Mangat, Director Public Instruction (Colleges) UT Administration.
GMSS-20 wins march past contest
The students of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 20 won a trophy during the World Thinking Day celebrations. The school won the first prize in marchpast competition in which 27 city teams had participated. The students also presented a skit depicting the importance of preservation of environment and were given the award by Home Secretary Anuradha Gupta.
Map-to-ground exercise postponed
The Map-to-ground exercise being organised by the Survey of India has been postponed to February 27, according to a statement issued here. The exercise was earlier scheduled to be held on February 26.
Protest against alleged abduction
The residents of Sector 32-C staged a protest demonstration against the alleged abduction of a 15-year-old girl by a 37-year-old man of the same sector. The two are reportedly from different religious communities. According to Bhajan Kaur, the president of the Rashtriya Sangharsh Morcha, Sector 32, the alleged accused kidnapped the girl around two months back.
Private schools told not to hike fee
Private schools in Panchkula have reportedly been issued directives not to hike their fee for the forthcoming academic session. A formal notification in this regard is, however, yet to be issued. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Deputy Commissioner, HUDA Administrator, District Administration Office and the representatives of various private schools.
ASI, constables tests postponed
The Chandigarh Police have postponed the recruitments of assistant sub-inspectors and constables again due to "administrative reasons" to April 20 and 27, respectively. According to the police sources, the physical measurement tests and interview for ASIs and constables were to be held on March 4 and March 11, respectively. Now the ASI candidates have been asked to report for physical measurements and interview in Police Lines in Sector 26 on April 20 while those for the post of constables have been called on April 27 at the same place and time.
