NEW DELHI, February 25: Two passengers enroute to London were caught with 3.8 kg of heroin, valued at Rs 3.7 crore in the international market. The incident took place on Wednesday when Customs Preventive officers were checking passengers boarding the United Airlines flight 001 to London. They had received a tip-off from sources that a passenger would be trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. Two men were stopped and frisked after they had gone through customs and immigration.
The search showed that one of them had 1.4 kg of heroin concealed in five polythene bags inside knee pads. The other man was also carrying 2.4 kg of heroin in eight packets again inside knee pads. Customs Commissioner Vijay Zutshi said one man had an American passport. He was, however, of Indian origin, while the other has an Indian passport, possibly under an assumed name. Investigations are on to ascertain the true identity of the men.
