SD-32 College out of Nehru hockey

AMRITSAR, Feb 25: MAO Government College, Lahore and Jamia Millia Islamia College, New Delhi entered the quarters-finals of the seventh Jawaharlal Nehru-SAIL Champion Colleges Hockey Tournament being played at the Guru Nanak Dev University Sports Complex here today.

In their last league encounters, the boys from Lahore held strong contenders Ganesh Dutt SD College, Chandigarh to a 1-1 draw while Jamia Millia thrashed N A S College, Meerut 4-0.

SD College enjoyed territorial supremacy but wasted a number of chances that came their way. They utilised both the wings but their efforts proved abortive. They got eight penalty corners which they muffed.

It was the Pakistani collegiates who struck first, one minute before the half time when Tasir Khurshid scored a field goal with a nice flick.

It was Vikram Saini of SD College, Chandigarh who restored parity for his team in the 46th minute with a field goal.

In the second league encounter, Jamia Milia Islamia routed NAS College, Meerut by 4-0,. Prabhjot Singh scored a hat-trick by scoring in the 31st, 33rd and 60th minutes. Vinay Kumar completed tally in the 46th minute.

RCF beat BSF
Jalandhar: Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthalaa defeated Border Security Force, Jalandhar by 2-0 in the first All-India Prize Money Football Tournament being organised by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Football Society at the Guru Gobind Singh Football Stadium here.

After a barren first half, RCF midfielders Mohd Akram and Jaswinder Singh scored one goal each.

In another match Punjab State Electricity Board, Hoshiarpur eked out a narrow 1-0 win over Vasco Club of Goa.
