Former reader held in GPA forgery case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Feb 26: The city police have arrested a former reader with the UT Estate Office here for his alleged involvement in the forgery of a general power of attorney.

The case has been registered at the Sector 17 Police Station by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police for under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint filed by Sudhir Sood of Ludhiana. Those who have been booked include Satish Kapur, his wife Sheetal Kapur, and Gopal Mehta.

Police sources said the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a Ludhiana resident, Sudhir Sood, and a Sector 19 resident, R. K. Sharma. Sudhir Sood held the general power of attorney of the house of Sector 21 residents, Satwanti Sood and Hansraj Sood. However, Gopal Mehta impersonated himself as their GPA.

He reportedly sold the house to R. K. Sharma and some amount was also paid to the tenant, Satish Kapur. It was at the time of getting the no-objection certificate, Sharma found that the GPA was forged.

The police have arrested Harbhajan Singh Nagi, then working as Reader to the Assistant Estate Office in the Estate Office here. He was allegedly involved in the case as he had helped the other alleged accused.

The police said investigations are on and more arrests are likely to follow. A team has already been sent to Delhi.
