PUNE, March 1: National scholar Dattatreyashastri Dhundiraj Kavishwar died here this morning. He was 89.Kavishwar who was a professor at Tilak Maharashtra Sanskrit Vidyapeeth from 1945 to 1969 was conferred the `Mahamahopadhyaya'' title by Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Dwarka in 1970. He was also conferred the Vidyavachaspati title by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad in 1961 and honoured by President Dr. S. D. Sharma with a silver plate in 1993. He had to his credit many books and translated works.,The final rites will be performed in the city tomorrow morning.
Letter contest
Save India Association has announced its best letter award to N. Nagesh for his letter published in The Indian Express on November 22, 1998 and captioned `Power of silence'. The second prize was bagged by Dilip V. Sathe for his letter in Sakal on June 1, 1998 while A S Rao walked away with the third prize for his letter, captioned `Think well before casting vote', published in `Pune Times' on January 23, 1998.
Bulchand Charitable Trust's prize for the best letter on public health will be given to Dr. Purushottam G. Dev for his letter, `Right keys to health', in The Indian Express on August 23, 1998. Navsahyadri Senior Citizens prize on welfare of the aged will be given to S. M. Acharya for his letter `Pune helps Bhopal', in `Maharashtra Herald' on October 7, 1998.
