NEW DELHI, MARCH 1: 6the Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR against an inspector of the Employees' Provident Fund Enforcement Branch for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The report was lodged against Satya Narayan Gupta on February 25 after the Anti-Corruption Branch received a complaint from a west Delhi-based factory owner. The FIR states that Gupta went to Tilak Raj's factory on Pankha Road on February 25 and accused him of employing excess labour without showing this in the record books. Raj runs two electronic goods factories in the area.
Gupta allegedly told Raj that certain complaints against his firm were pending with the provident fund office and that he had come to inspect his factories.
In his complaint, Raj has said that Gupta told him to pay the arrears in provident fund contribution with effect from November 1997 despite his assurance that the excess employees were casual labourers and had been recruited recently.
The FIR states that Gupta told Raj to pay around Rs 5 lakh as arrears and subsequently asked for a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to settle the matter. ``He told me that the bribe had to be shared with higher authorities as well,'' Raj says in his complaint. Gupta allegedly told Raj to pay the amount at his residence on February 26 after 8 p.m. The inspector has been charged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA).
