NEW DELHI, MARCH 1: With Delhi going `dry' for two days for Holi, bootleggers have been very active for the past two days. The Delhi Police have seized at least 500 pouches of illicit liquor and 500 cartons of whiskey and rum. Four persons have been arrested in this connection.The police found that the bootleggers had already stored most of the liquor in godowns in the areas where they would do business. Last night, policemen patrolling the Palam area intercepted a Tata Sumo on the highway. When they searched the vehicle, they found four cartons of whiskey. The occupants reportedly said they were on their way to sell the liquor to a contact. The driver, Dhirender Singh, and his associate, Ramesh Kumar, later led the police to their hideout a DDA flat in Pappan Kalan area. There, they found 396 more cartons of whiskey and 130 cartons of rum. In Samaipur Badli last night, Police Control Room personnel seized 376 pouches of country-made liquor from a 19-year-old scooterist. Rajesh, a resident Suraj Park jhuggi Colony in Samaipur Badli, told the police he was taking the liquor for his neighbours.
And on Narela-Bawana Road, another scooterist Akhilesh, 21, was caught with 190 pouches of country-made liquor.
