Railways retains U-21 soccer title

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE  
NEW DELHI, MarCH 1: Indian Railways retained the under-21 National Football Championship defeating Bengal 1-0 here yesterday. The all-important goal was scored by mid-fielder S.Velu from the spot.

In all eight teams -- Railways, Karnataka, Chandigarh, Bihar (Group A) and Bengal, Goa, Assam and hosts Rajasthan (Group B) participated in the championship.

Railways, runners-up Bengal and Rajasthan were directly seaded in the quarterfinal league.

In the quarterfinal league, Railways defeated Chandigarh and Bihar. In the semifinal, Railways beat strong contender Goa 1-0.

Incidentally, last year also the final was played between Railways and Bengal, where the former beat the latter by 1-0.
