Citygritty -- Pune

Sunanda, Reshma and Aishwarya
Sticking to singing?
He's really progressed. Not just to his second video but also its theme. While Mandar Agashe's first video, Nazar Nazar, revolved around the typical girl-meets-boy-both-fall-in-love-fight-make-up theme, the second one, Ab Jeena Hai Tujh Bin, has moved several steps ahead to zoom in on a live-in relationship.

Shot brilliantly in stark black and white at the Film and Television Institute of India, the video has Agashe, despite his boy-next-door looks, doing a close number with model Catherine.

Agashe, however, feels he can identify more with the second video as it gels with his rocker image. ``The challenge lay in portraying dejection, as it is basically a sad number. It's all about the girl having walked out of the relationship and how I try to come to terms with it. But for the life of me, I could not manage the morose expression expected. In fact, in the shot where she stages the walk-out, I am almost smiling,'' grins the affable computer-engineer-turned-pop-singer. Well, what can one say? Except that here's hoping Agashe sticks to what he's good at - singing - and unlike some pop singers, doesn't make a bid for the silver screen!

Personality work-out
Ratna Khemani, founder director, Centre for Personality Development and the Academy of Natural Health and Beauty, is now conducting two-day workshops on `Orientation to Travel and Western Culture'. ``Travelling abroad is not just fun, shopping and glamour,'' she says, ``it's a culture shock, an emotional vacuum, and you need to prepare yourself to survive and make the most of your stay.'' She familiarises students and company executives on the country they are visiting, its culture and way of life.

`Conversational skills and behaviour sensitivities,' is the focus of another two-day workshop she conducts, with emphasis on facing interviews. ``I explain to students the importance of talking with conviction, being assertive, not aggressive, and the art of listening well.''

Etiquette, grooming, and cultivating positive attitudes are also covered in her workshops. She concentrates on an all-round personality development - diet, exercise, positive thinking, and confidence-building.

Vivid strokes
It's a painting exhibition again but this one's different. The Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya's Teacher Training Division has put on display paintings as part of their annual exhibition at the Balgandharva Kaladalan. Portraits of old men in traditional garbs, landscapes including temples and houses, still life and colourful abstracts line the wall of the gallery. During its inauguration recently, former principal D.S. Khatavkar and professor Sudhaka Chavan were felicitated. The exhibition, which includes 148 paintings in all, will be on display till Friday.
