Gurpreet shines

CHANDIGARH, March 3: Gurpreet's brilliant knock of 59 runs and fine spell by Akash Salhotra (3 for 19) enabled LIC Cricket Club beat Domino XI (Mohali) by 162 runs in the second Shankar Lal Memorial cricket tournament held yesterday.

LIC began on a promising note and posted a huge total of 255 in 23 overs, losing six wickets. Gurpreet hit five boundaries and three sixers in his knock of 59 runs which came off 22 balls. Akash (49) Dinesh (39) and Lalit (30) also contributed to the total.

Sher Singh scalped three wickets for Domimo XI.

In reply, Domino XI were bundled out for a paltry score of 93 runs in the 13th over.

Amarjeet (32) and Sunil (22) were the main scorer for the losers.

Akash got three while Rahul took two wickets.

In another match Kalsi XI defeated High Court XI by one wicket.

Brief scores: LIC: 255 for 6 in 23.4 overs (Gurpreet 59, Akash Salhotra 49, Dinesh Pathak 39, Lalit 30, Sher Singh 3 for 39); Domino XI: 93 in 19 overs (Amarajeet 32, Sunil 22, Akash Salhotra 3 for 19, Rahul Panta 2 for 20).

High Court XI: 139 in 24.4 overs (Gurdeep Rana 69, Varun 23, Manoj 4 for 27, Jagjit 2 for 15); Kalsi XI: 140 for 9 in 25 overs (Vikrant Joshi 25, Sanjeev 25, Jaswinder 19 n.o., Manish 18, Raj Kumar 3 for 33, Jitender 2 for 10).

Worrell recovering
The Chandigarh Sports Council cricket coach, Devi Chand Worrell has been discharged from the Sector 16 General Hospital after recovering from the heart attack he suffered on February 26.

Worrell, who had played Ranji Trophy for Southern Punjab (Patiala), is posted at the Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 32.
