Feast for Lingayats, leftovers for Dalits -- Patel's menu on priority

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
BANGALORE, March 4: That politicians consider government posts and perks up for grabs was aptly described by former minister Jayakumar at a press conference on Wednesday.

Upset that he was not elevated to Cabinet rank he said only Lingayats (the community represented by nine Cabinet ministers including the chief minister) had a field day in Patel's tenure as it was a massive feast of choice vegetraian and non vegetarian food served generously to the Lingayat community.

``For Vokkaliga ministers (six Cabinet and State ministers each) it is lamb curry and raagi balls with beans added. For Muslims (lone Cabinet minister) it is stale biriyani,'' he said.

For Dalits stale rice has been served. For Brahmins it is Puliyogare, for Dalits the leftover food and liquid normally served to cattle, and for the fishng community to which Jayakumar belongs it is an empty plate with not even a single fish on it, he said. ``And the man who served this claims that he is a follower of Lohia'', he added.

When pointed outthat politicians can think of only `eating and swallowing' whenever the posts and perks are referred, Jayakumar said, ``Unfortunately, it has come to that level. Anyone will feel the anguish and jealousy at others' enjoyment when one is left with nothing''.
