CPI to launch nationwide signature campaign against fanaticism

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
CHENNAI, MAR 4: The Communist Party of India (CPI) will launch a nation-wide signature campaign to protest against "communal and religious fanaticism" on March 6, CPI Tamil Nadu unit secretary R Nallakannu said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would launch the campaign in the State, while it would be launched by E K Nayanar and Jyoti Basu in Thiruvananthapuram and Calcutta respectively.

He said Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) president G K Moopanar, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Murasoli Maran, were among those who took part in the CPI convention in Delhi and decided to jointly organise the campaign in Tamil Nadu. Ten lakh signatures would be collected in the State, he added.

He criticised the Vajpayee Government for hiking prices of essential commodities supplied through the public distribution system. The hike in urea price would grossly affect agricultural production, he added.

He denied the possibility of a Third Front coming up in theState.
