Varun excels
Varun Taneja prevailed over Anuj Upppal 119-0, 77-14, 63-43, 22-67, 48-71, 63-26 in the round robin league of Meharban Singh Dhupia memorial billiard and snooker tournament at Chelmsford Club.

Gaurab Anand defeated Vijay Goel 29-84, 59-22, 53-74, 74-22, 101-35, 76-41 while Siddharth Anand outwitted Atul Aggarwal 33-66, 70-24, 64-44, 64-44, 63-31, 114-7. Rishab beat Rajat Taneja to enter the semi-final.

Gillette win
Gillette Sports Club won the Gillette Platinum Cup beating Sadar Distributors by 42 runs at Jamia Millia Islamia ground.

KC Sharma (41, 4 for 21) and Sushil Mohan (65) were the top scorers for the winners while Rajiv's 63 runs were of no avail for the losers.

Brief scores: Gillette: 183 for 8 (Sushil Mohan 65, KC Sharma 41, GV Ramani 22, S Bittoo 4 for 15, Rajeev 3 for 25) bt Sadar Distributors: 141 (Rajeev 63, S Bittoo 25, KC Sharma 4 for 21, Jagdish Kumar 2 for 31).

Crown for Arun
Arun Nagar (State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, zonal office) won chess championship knocking out RC Pawar (Karol Bagh) by geting 20 points in the 16th SBBJ annual sports meet at Shanker Road. Ashok Jain got the third position.

CWC triumph
Fine knocks by Amrish Gautam (80) and Rajeev Vinayak (48) enabled CWC outplay MCD by seven wickets in G group of the second Hari Singh Tyagi TYCA league at Mohan Meakin ground.

Brief scores: CWC: 186 for 3 (Amrish Gautam 80, Rajeev Vinayak 48, Brijender Tanwar 3 for 15) bt MCD: 185 (Dharmvir Baniwal 48, Pankaj Malik 39, John Anthony 30, Ashwani Anand 2 for 20, Sunil Sudan 2 for 21, Naresh Khanna 2 for 24, Surjeet Verma 2 for 38).

Tejbhan shines
A fine spell of bowling by Tejbhan (4 for 20) and an unbeaten 59 by Ravi Kant helped CCSCSB triumph over Railway Board by 32 runs in the inter-ministry veteran cricket tournament.

Brief scores: CCSCSB: 192 for 4 (Ravi Kant 59 not out, Tejbhan 45, VK Nathani 41, Vinod Sharma 2 for 35) bt Railway Board: 161 (Vinod Sharma 68, B Bhatnagar 41, Tejbhan 4 for 20).

Delhi carrom
Jameel Ahmed (Magic Finger Club) has been top seeded in the men's singles of Delhi state carrom championship to be held from March 12 at 2 pm at Anglo Arabic School, Ajmeri Gate.

The other seeds are: J Zahid, Mohd Nasir, Ashish Singh, Mehboob Saeed, Sanjay Bhatnagr, Sualeheen and VD Narayan.

Telecom meet
The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited wrestlers will try to retain their superiority over the other collegueas from all over the country when they take on them in the 14th All-India Telecom Wrestling meet which gets under way at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium from tomorrow.

According to C.V. Rajan, chief general manager of the MTNL, this has been a prestigeous meet which the Delhi Telecom grapplers have been winning for the last five years. This year, too, he hoped the Delhi wrestlers will give a good account of themselves and try to keep the title with them.
