Sub-registrar in ACB net
Kolhapur: The Anti Corruption Bureau sleuths nabbed a sub-registrar Pandurang Chavan red-handed on Thursday while accepting a bribe of Rs 1500. Satish Kamble, who has a travel agency had lodged a complaint with ACB Dy SP Sudhir Chowgule.

Kamble had applied for a loan of Rs 7 lakhs at one of the city banks. He went to sub-register Chavan's office for a stamp of Rs 7,000 as he planned to mortgage his bungalow for the loan.

When Kamble met Chavan at his office, he demanded Rs 1,500 for the job. Kamble later informed ACB officials who caught Chavan.

Paricharak elected n SOLAPUR: SUDHAR Paricharak and Prakash Patil have been elected as the chairman and vice-chairman of District Central Co-operative Bank, respectively here on Friday. Deputy Colletor Arun Unhale presided over the meeting. Mediatory efforts by former minister Vijaysinh Mohite Patil paved the way for the unanimous election. The director of the bank board Ganpatrao Deshmukh, Baban Shinde, Rajan Patil, Bhai S M Patil, Brahmdev Mane, Deepak Salunkhe and others were present.

Sale of agriculture products
Kopargaon: The State Government may allow farmers to sell their agricultural products in major cities or towns on the lines of similar policies adopted by Andhra Pradesh, according to agriculture minister, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil.

The matter was already discussed with the cooperation department. At present, farmers could only sell their products through Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC), Patil said.

The AP Government had given permission to farmers to sell their agricultural products directly in major markets so that consumers would get such products at reasonable rates, he said, adding that he would shortly discuss the matter with Finance Minister to get less-interest-loan scheme for farmers.

Twin test tube babies
A thirty three-year-old woman from Mysore recently had twin test tube babies, a boy and a girl, at Kolhapur. She was treated by Dr Satish and Ujwala Patki at Yash Fertility Laboratory in the city. The twins were delivered by in-vitro fertilisation technique.
