Guria hat-tricks
Nippy forward Brinder Guria became the first player to score a double hat-trick and helped debutants Border Security Force (BSF) post a 12-0 win over Vidarbha while defending champions Indian Railways scored a runaway 13-0 victory over Rajasthan and Bihar struck two goals in the first ten minutes beat Andhra 2-0 in the 59th Senior National Hockey Championship in Hyderabad. Brinder Guria scored seven goals in all.

Srikanth bows out
Indian challenge in the Centenary All-England Badminton Championships ended with the exit of Srikanth Bakshi in the pre-quarter-finals at Birmingham. Bakshi, who had beaten world no. 91 Joachim Fischer of Denmark 15-9, 15-11 on his way to pre-quarter-finals, was knocked out by world no. 1 and top seed Peter Gade Christiansen of Denmark 6-15, 3-15. Bakshi, runners-up in the Nationals, had won three qualifying round matches.

Gibbs hits ton
Herschelle Gibbs became South Africa's first non-white player to score a Test century as he anchored his team's hopes of a match-winning total in the second cricket Test against New Zealand in Christchurch on Friday. Gibbs hit a career-best 101 not out in South Africa's 229 for one at stumps on the second day after new zealand had been dismissed for 168 on the first day.
