CHANDIGARH, MARCH 19: A live demonstration of shoulder arthroscopy and interlocking nailing of the femur was part of the day-long orthopaedic workshop held at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, here today.The workshop was a part of the three-day 18th North Zone Indian Orthopaedic Association conference being held at the PGI. It was inaugurated by ex-director of PGI, Prof I.C. Pathak. As many as 400 delegates from India and abroad are participating in the conference.
According to organising secretary Dr S.S. Gill, "the topics to be discussed will include recent advances in the field of orthopaedics and challenges before surgeons."
." Head of Orthopaedic Department, PGI, Dr O.N. Nagi said, "The basic objective of the conference is to train doctors."
On the first day, two workshops on shoulder arthroscopy and interlocking nailing of the femur were conducted by Prof S. Frostick from Liverpool. While a live demonstration of the operation was given in operation theatre, the same was relayed in the lecture theatre for delegates.
A science fair is also being organised displaying various advances in orthopaedics instrumentation and pharmaceuticals by various companies.Organising sectretary Dr S.S. Gill said, "Dr Karam Singh Grewal and P.K. Duraiswami lectures will be delivered by Dr S.S. Sangwan from Rohtak and Dr Shekhar Bhojraj from Mumbai."
