EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, MARCH 19: The Governments of I0ndia and Pakistan should focus on economic priorities of the people on both sides to improve bilateral relations and take up long-term planning to achieve this.

This was brought out at a seminar on ``Strengthening Indo-Pak Relations'', organised here today by the Directorate of Field Publicity.

Speaking on the occasion, local MP Satya Pal Jain said the new generation in Pakistan was keen on improving relations as early as possible.

Sanjay Chaturvedi from PU 's Department of Political Science said that a section of Pakistanis believed that it was a problem between India and the Punjabi lobby in that country. Journalist Prem Kumar said that efforts should be made at various levels to improve communication between the two countries.

Defence analyst Col P. K. Vasudeva (retd) stressed upon the need for demilitarising the Siachen Glacier as the government was spending about Rs 5 crore daily.

Earlier, inaugurating the seminar, editor of a local daily, Hari Jaisingh said that psychological barriers have been built between people of the two countries by different governments due to political compulsions.
