CHANDIGARH, MARCH 19: Admissions to various undergraduate and postgraduate classes for the session 1999-2000 of Punjab University teaching departments and its affiliated colleges will begin on July 14. Besides, the total number of teaching days for the session has been fixed at 185.The Punjab University academic calendar and the admission scheduled was approved by the Punjab University Syndicate in its meeting held on Wednesday evening. According to the calendar approved, teaching for ongoing classes will begin on July 14 itself while teaching for new classes is scheduled to commence a week later, sources said.
The 60-day summer vacation following the annual exams will begin on May 15. An eight-day autumn break is in store after the first academic term ends on September 25 and another vacation follows the end on the second term on December 24. The end of the third term, on March 31, however, will be followed by exams from April 1, sources added. Normal admissions will take place between July 14 and July 20 while late admissions with the permission of the department chairperson or college principal and on the payment of a late fee of Rs 75 will take place between July 21 and 26. For delays beyond that, admission-seekers will have to pay Rs 400 as late fee and obtain permission of Vice-Chancellor up to August 31.
