Top cop's son shoots at boy
The Yerawada police arrested Kalyan Singh Chavan, the 30-year-old son of a retired Deputy Inspector General (Prisons), on attempted murder charges after he opened fire from his air gun and injured a boy on Thursday.

Eleven-year-old Ganesh Bhimrao Pawar, who suffered injury to his left arm in the firing, has been admitted to a private hospital in Yerawada. Ganesh is out of danger, hospital sources said.

Police said Kalyan Singh had opened fire from his air gun in a bid to scare away some boys ``playing outside'' his residence in Jilco Housing Society in Yerawada last evening.

The pellets struck Ganesh, who was accompanying the boys. A profusely bleeding Ganesh was immediately shifted to the hospital. Kalyan Singh was arrested after Ganesh lodged a first information report (FIR) against him later in the night.

Thakur demands Ubale's apology
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Ganesh Thakur has issued legal notice to Shiv Sena corporator and opposition leader Sulabha Ubale demanding an unconditional apology for making defamatory allegations, regarding promotions to two assistant commissioners. The notice, served through Thakur's lawyers, said the commissioner would be forced to sue her for a compensation of Rs 50 lakh, if the apology was not tendered within four days.

Water cess hike
The civic general body meeting of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Friday turned down an administrative proposal to hike the annual domestic water tax from Rs 400 to Rs 806. The tax has been hiked by Rs 100, applicable only for half-inch domestic water connections.

The administrative proposal for almost a three-fold hike for commercial water connections and domestic water connections other than half-inch was, however, approved. The hike will come into effect from April 1.
