MUMBAI, MARCH 19: A triple strike by Rajesh Matkari helped Union Bank of India drub State Bank of India 9-1 in the Punjab National Bank sponsored BHA league senior division hockey tie at the Khalsa College Ground today.Playing with just eleven player (none on the bench) SBI could not compete with their younger and more energetic rivals.The floodgate for UBI opened in the 12th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Matkari and was followed by another indirect conversion by MG Bhosle. SBI added on to their woes when defender Claver Anderson handled the ball at the goal-line in the 21st minute resulting in a stroke to UBI. Elroy Rodrigues converted the stroke with ease. With seconds to go Matkari score his second goal to help UBI to a 4-0 cushion into half-time.
After the lemon break UBI kept up their tempo as a goal each by Sameer Jadhav, Balbinder Singh and Anil Raichurkar swelled up the UBI tally.Vinod Futardo scored SBI's consolation goal in the 55th minute.
