Sports activities to be revived

S.A.S NAGAR, MARCH 19: To revive various sports activities in the state, the Punjab Government has earmarked a sum of Rs 7.50 crore. This was announced here today by Nusrat Ali Khan, Punjab, Minister of State for Sports, during the inauguration ceremony of the first floor of the Paragaon Senior Secondary School.

He said that under the rural development scheme, sports stadiums in villages would be contructed soon. For this a sum of Rs 25000 had been released.

An additional sum of Rs 25000 would also be released once the construction work begins, said the minister.

However, the remaining amount would be paid subsequently.

He also disclosed that Rs 1.5 crore would be given for the timely completion of Sports Complex in the township, which is under construction. The minister also announced a grant of Rs one lakh for the construction of the stadium in school campus and Rs one lakh for the school building. He also assured the school authorities that a cricket coach would be deputed to train the students.

Kabaddi meet
More than 20 teams from schools, colleges and institutions are expected to participate in the Panchkula District Senior kabaddi championship (men and women) in national and circle styles to be held at Forest Ground, Pinjore on March 27 and 28. According to a press release, the teams should report at 9 a.m., at the venue.

Cricket meet
Punjab Warehousing will take on YCC in the opening match of the third Chandigarh league cum-knock-out cricket tournament which will begin tomorrow at Sector 16 Cricket Stadium.
