Vijay Dahiya pilots Airlines to victory

NEW DELHI, MARCH 19: Star-studded Indian Airlines which had in its ranks such big names as V V S Laxman, Vijay Dahiya, J Arun Kumar, Fazal Khalil, Vineet Jain and Sonu Sharma, brushed aside the challenge of D S Group by a 55-run margin in their pool B league match of the third Roshanara Pepsi Cup at the Roshanara Club ground here today.

Powered by useful knocks from almost all the top-order batsmen, Airlines reached 269 for nine in the stipulated 45 overs. Dahiya top-scored with 66 while Shafiq Khan (41), J Arun Kumar (32), V V S laxman (30) and Khalil (40) were the other major contributors. Rakesh Bhatia (3 for 31) and Rajeev Rathore (2 for 28) were the main wicket-takers.

Despite some defiant knocks from opener Sarvesh Gupta (41), Deepak Anand (45) and Ashish Sharma (34), D S Group were never in the game as Vineet Jain, Onkar Singh, Sonu Sharma and Subhash Chaudhary took wickets at regular intervals.

Dahiya was named the man of the match. On Saturday, Sonnet, who have already qualified for the semi-finals after two wins in pool A, take on Malviya.
