Share prices continue downtrend at NSE

MUMBAI, MAR 25: Share prices continued to fall on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) today due to increased selling pressure and closed with further losses. Mirroring the general trend, the S&P CNX Nifty opened weak at 1057.95 and declined further to end at 1054.90 showing a loss of 7.90 points as against yesterday's close of 1062.80.

The market witnessed a total turnover of Rs 2,300.17 crore from 679.71 lakh shares and in 2,77,953 trades. The debenture turnover was Rs 24.37 lakh. As many as 508 securities advanced while 556 declined, 85 held steady and 113 hit their price bands, NSE said.

The most actively traded securities were Satyam Comp with a turnover of Rs 524.03 crore, Pentafour Rs 505.81 crore, ITC Rs 176.65 crore, Rolta Rs 126.92 crore, Silverline Rs 119.46 crore and SBI Rs 101.16 crore. Other actively traded counters were HCL-HP (Rs 51.06 crore), Zee Tele (Rs 46.91 crore), Reliance (Rs 42.46 crore), Infosys Tech (Rs 42.05 crore), Tata Tea (Rs 34.75 crore), BPL (Rs 27.89 crore), Telco (Rs 26.60crore), Ranbaxy (Rs 25.22 crore), L&T (Rs 23.90 crore), ACC (Rs 19.51 crore), BHEL (Rs 18.69 crore), Tisco (Rs 19.51 crore), Tisco (Rs 18.16 crore), NIIT (Rs 18.08 crore), Digital Equip (Rs 17.85 crore), Videocon Int (Rs 17.31 crore), Hind Lever (Rs 16.53 crore), MTNL (Rs 16.13 crore) and Global Tele (Rs 10.14 crore).

The gainers were Cipla at Rs 1504.70 (Rs 1393.20), Guj Amb Cem Rs 293.25, Hero Honda Rs 867.00 (Rs 843.95), HDFC Bank Rs 62.05 (Rs 60.50) and Infosys Tech Rs 2725.00 (Rs 2675). The losers were Tisco Rs 100.50 (Rs 107), ITC Rs 914 (Rs 960.10), SBI Rs 208.95 (Rs 218.15), GE Shipping Rs 19.50 (Rs 20.30) and Tata Tea Rs 448.10 (Rs 463).
