Tamaraikani released, may sue Speaker

CHENNAI: After four days of incarceration in the central prison here, AIADMK MLA R Thamaraikani was released late this evening and threatened to sue the TN Speaker for compensation at the rate of Rs one crore per day. Thamaraikani told media persons that he had been ill-treated in prison. No medical attention was given to him though he had told jail officials that he was coughing blood, he alleged.

Netaji's death

NEW DELHI: A fresh judicial inquiry is proposed to be set up by the Centre into the controversy over the reported death of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in an air crash at Taihoku (Formosa) on August 18, 1945.

Stampede deaths

MIRZAPUR: Six people were killed and 20 injured in a stampede at a temple on the occasion of Ram Navami here today, police said. The incident took place when a large number of devotees jostled with each other to have a darshan of goddess Vindhayavashni at the Vindhayachal temple complex, the policesaid.

Cop held for theft

BANGALORE: Two persons, including a police constable from Chennai, have been taken into custody on the charge of committing robbery in a Chennai-Bangalore train. The two, who were involved in similar cases in the past, had allegedly relieved passengers of a ladies compartment of gold ornaments on February 28 at Bangarpet, near here.

Dingko disqualified

VISAKHAPATNAM: Dingko Singh has been disqualified from defending his title at the 45th Senior National boxing championship on Thursday after he was found 300 gm overweight for the 54 kg bantamweight category. Officials of the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) were tight-lipped on the issue.
