The CBI has filed an FIR against Prem Nath Sonkar, who is posted with the Public Grievances Cell of the Ashok Vihar Police Station, under the Prevention of Corruption Act, following a raid at Sonkar's residence last month. The FIR, which has been submitted in the court of special judge Ajit Bharihoke, states that Sonkar -- who represented India at the 1972 Olympics in the weight-lifting category -- allegedly acquired disproportionate assets between 1980 and 1998.

According to the FIR, the property amassed by Sonkar is disproportionate to his monthly salary.

The FIR states that Sonkar owns a three-storeyed house worth Rs 45 lakh, apart from an ice-cream factory. The report also mentions the Mukherjee Nagar flat and a mineral water factory costing Rs 12 lakh. ``The income of Prem Nath Sonkar, ACP, Delhi Police is Rs 7 lakh approximately, which he earned from his salary,'' reads the FIR.

The agency states that, from the facts collected, it is evident that Sonkar had misused his official position as a public servant. The CBI says his assets would amount to around Rs 31 lakh.

``The aforesaid facts prima facie disclose commission of offence punishable under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988,'' says the FIR. Although, Sonkar is still working as the ACP, he could not be contacted, despite repeated attempts. Additional DCP (north-west) Satish Golcha told Express Newsline: ``Any action against Sonkar will be followed up by the Police Headquarters. In any case, we have not yet received a copy of the FIR, so we do not have any idea about its contents.''

Joint Commissioner (Northern Range), Suresh Roy, refused to comment saying that the CBI was investigating the matter.
