MCD chief orders closure of bridge

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, MARCH 25: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has closed down Janak Setu, the road bridge over Delhi Cantonment Railway Station, after chunks of concrete were found falling from one of the beams. MCD Commissioner V.K. Duggal has ordered immediate repairs and an inquiry.

The closure of the bridge will inconvenience commuters travelling on the Dhaula Kuan-Delhi Cantonment-Janakpuri section. This bridge is a vital link between west Delhi and Delhi Cantonment areas. Duggal says the bridge is expected to be reopened after one month; the U.P. State Bridge Corporation have been entrusted with the repair work. Till then, motorists will have to use the Pankha Road level-crossing under the bridge. The traffic police have been requested to deploy additional men during this period to prevent traffic jams.

As, 10 Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs and 10 others to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), failed to comply with the statutory provision in the Municipal Act. There are 134 wards in the city and each of these is represented by a councillor.

Delhi Mayor Yog Dhyan Ahuja said that all councillors had declared their assets and he had the entire list. ``We have all the details and if the LG asks us, we shall submit it to him. Every single councillor has given us a list of their immovable and movable assets and they give us these details every year,'' he said.
