EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, MARCH 26: The Guru Granth Sahib was stolen from the Ramdaspeth Gurudwara here, Thursday afternoon.

According to information, Granthi Balwant Singh Rihan first noticed that the Guru Granth Sahib was missing from the main hall of the gurudwara. No gurudwara official knew the holy book was missing.

Officials said the holy book could have been stolen by two women who were seen in the gurudwara before the theft. The women had come for darshan in a Maruti car. The book went missing as soon as the women left the gurudwara. All the other objects at the gurudwara were untouched. A large number of Sikhs gathered at the gurudwara as soon as news of the theft spread in the city. The Dhantoli police was informed about the incident.

Police Commissioner Ulhas Joshi, Bhimrao Raut from the Special Branch, H R Jadhav and Sanjay Kumar arrived at the gurudwara to investigate the matter. Police believe the theft could be the work of some miscreants to create communal tension in the city. The Dhantoli police hasregistered a case under Section 295 and 379 of the Criminal Procedure Code and begun investigations.

A meeting of the Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee was held in the evening.
