DERA BASSI, March 26: Patiala deputy commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir today said that the construction work on a Rs 27.80-crore project to strengthen the bandh along with Ghaggar river would start in the next financial year. Besides, a sum of Rs 2 crore has been earmarked in the state's budget for augmentation of water supply in Dera Bassi block under the existing Rural Water Scheme, 1995.He was speaking during the Open Darbar organised by the district authorities at Mubarakpur and attended by officials of various departments and residents of the surrounding villages. He was accompanied by additional deputy commissioner Gagandeep Singh, SDM Sher Singh Sidhu and DSP H.S. Bhullar, the DC listened to the grievances of the residents separately.
The deteriorating condition of roads, water and electricity were brought to the notice of the deputy commissioner, who assured that all roads of the state would be repaired and recarpetted by the year 2000.
On a complaint of a section of residents, Bir asked the SDM to issue show cause notice to three patwaris for their failure in attending the villagers regularly. He also asked SDM to initiate departmental action against them if the charged levelled against them was found to be true.
