Kids' Watch -- Pune

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Fitness fun
Along with playing and lazing about, holidays are also the time to do all things that get side-lined during school and homework. Jasmine Irani has chalked out a special athletics and strength training camp for children during the vacation months from April 15 to May 31. Open to kids between four and 15 years of age, the venue will be Salunkhe Vihar. Time to pick up those dumb bells and have a fun-filled exercise session!

Baldoot's silver jubilee
The popular children's serial on the national network, Baldoot, airs its 25th episode on March 28. With some special programmes on the agenda, it also pays a tribute to the late Dr. Vijay Kapahi, who was interviewed on the episode last week in connection with the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope. The celebration includes an interview with Saurabh, an avid Baldoot viewer about his unique gift to the Baldoot team - a painting of a bird's nest. Actually, only the tree was painted, a real nest stuck on to it! And then there's some information about hot air ballooning that's becoming a craze in Japan. An interesting mix!

Homemade band
The Isabel Preparatory School had its annual day on March 20. Children upto Std. IV performed a skit, a poetry recital, a song and dance show and so on. The best part was the kitchen band put up by the students (five to nine years). The instruments were utensils available in the kitchen. Matkas, plates, spoons, ladles, bowls, idli stands and even winnowing boards created rhythms that surprised all. The sounds and beats created by these everyday items were amazing - a revelation that little kids were capable of such mastery. The brainchild of the principal P. Ghadge, a keen music enthusiast, impressed parents so much that many insisted that this kitchen music be made part of the extra-curricular activities!
