Elf, Tatas in semis

PANAJI, MARCH 26: Tata Sports Club (Mumbai) with five points and All India Associated Bank with seven points made it to the semi-finals in Group A beating Gomantak Times by one wicket and Rashtriya Chemical Fertilizer (RCF) by five wickets respectively on the last day of their league matches in the 23rd All-India Arlem Trophy Invitational Cricket Tournament here.

In Group B, Chennai's Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), with three points, joined Elf (Mumbai) in the semi-finals, though they lost by 26 runs to Elf Lubricants today on better quotient.

Elf moved into the semis topping the table with nine points from three matches.

In the semi-finals tomorrow, Elf will clash with Tatas at Panjim Gymkhana and All-India Associate Bank will meet IOB at Arlem Ground, Margao.RCF and Gomantak Times (Goa) in Group A and Sun-Grace Sports Club (Mumbai) and IPCL (Vadodara) from Group B are out of the race.

At Panjim Gymkhana, RCF after winning the toss opted to bat and collapsed to 156 all out in 33.1 overs left-arm spinnerDevendra Pal Singh was the wrecker-in-chief who claimed three wickets conceding only three runs. Later Associated Bank had no difficulty to surpass the target of 157 runs on the strength of Man of the Match Manish Panchasara's half-century and losing only five wickets in 37.5 overs to win the match comfortably by five wickets.Brief scores: RCF 156 in 33.1 overs (Sulakshan Kulkarni 45, Vivek Narvane 37; Devendra Pal Singh 3-3) lost to Associated Bank 157-5 in 37.5 overs (Manish Panchasara 51, Pankaj Dharmani 34; Rahul Thakur 2-47, Amit Velsakar 2-37)

Gomantak Times 213-7 in 45 overs (R Ghodse 53, V Kolamkar 37; N Shetty 3-38, S Dahad 2-30) lost to Tatas 214-9 in 44.3 overs (N Haldipur 71, Nitesh Shetty 34; Yeswant Barde 3-36, Sadab Jakati 2-30)

Elf 259-9 in 45 overs (Sushant Manjrekar 69, Mazhar Ghadially 43; Shamigham 2-36, Ram Kishan 2-37, Srikumar Nair 2-58) bt IOB 233 40.2 overs (S Shankar 48, Ananth Padmanabhan 39; Maroof Khan 3-51, Nilesh Kulkarni 2-21).
