Short Corner -- Chandigarh

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
IA win National hockey title
It was a performance befitting a star-studded line-up. It was a showing that enhanced their reputation as a crack outfit in the country. Playing true to their potential, Indian Airlines, led by `Player of the Tournament' Sameer Dad's hat-trick, regained the Rangaswamy Cup, the symbol of supremacy in National hockey.

SA win
South Africa's Lance Klusener hit the last ball of the match for six to win the replayed fourth One-Day International against New Zealand today. The result ties the six match series at two-all with two matches remaining, although South Africa have certainly claimed the psychological upper hand.

Uphill task
With two defeats in two matches, the Sri Lankans are down if not out of the Pepsi triangular series. An 80-run pummelling from the Indians at Nagpur and a sudden collapse in a close match against the Pakistanis in the series-opener at Jamshedpur have left the world champions at the bottom of the table. Ranatunga, known for his cricketing sagacity, has to exhort his boys to do something out of the world against the table toppers Pakistan.

Chandigarh out
Thrice-champions Maharashtra were held to a one-all draw by Assam, while Karnataka thrashed Chandigarh 5-1 in their respective quarterfinal league matches of the Santosh Trophy national football championship.
