MLA bashes up Shiv Sena leader

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, March 28: Protesting against the Shiv Sena's threat to stop the sacrifice on the festival of Id-ul Zuha, Matin Ahmed, an independent MLA from Seelampur, today beat up the Yuva Shiv Sena unit president Ajay Srivastava.

The incident took place around around 7.15 p.m., when Ahmed along with his supporters reached Srivastava's house in Dishad Garden, beat him up along with his supporters. According to Srivastava, in keeping with the Mahavir Jayanti celebrations, the Delhi Yuva Shiv Sena had ``appealed'' to the Muslims to not to carry out sacrifices onId-ul-Zuha. They had also put up posters and had threatened to physically stop the sacrifices.

Srivastava said that these posters had also been put in the Muslim-dominated areas and Ahmed had called up in the morning and threatened him over the phone. ``Ahmed threatened me over the phone. But I had not taken him seriously.''

According to Ahmed, there had been a lot of tension in the area because of the provoking posters. ``This is a religious matter. How can it be tolerated just like this?'' he said.

He said he had called Srivastava up and said that one must respect the feeling of the other religion and that no threats can work in this regard. He alleged that Srivastava started abusing him. He said that later in the evening, he went to Srivastava's house and beat him up.

According to Srivastava, Ahmed reached his house in the evening with his supporters and asked for him. ``I went out towards the gate. He said tu nahin manega and then they started beating me and my men.''He also alleged that someone poured petrol and threw a burning matchstick.
