Trinamool `disappointed' at Sonia sparing CPM

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CALCUTTA, March 28: The Trinamool Congress today expressed disappointment over All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi sparing the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in her speech during her visit here yesterday and alleged that both the Congress and CPI (M) had an ``understanding'' at every level.

Reiterating that the Congress was the `B' team of the CPI (M) in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee told newspersons that her party had adopted a resolution at last night's extended executive meeting expressing disappointment over the fact that Gandhi did not utter a word against the CPI (M).

Meanwhile, in a bid to placate the Trinamool Congress leader, WBPCC working president Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi said AICC president Sonia Gandhi did not criticise or make any comment on Banerjee.

Describing press reports that Gandhi had ruled out the possibility of any negotiation or meeting with the Trinamool Congress leader as ``incorrect'', Dasmunshi clarified that the Congresspresident had, at no point of time, either criticised or made any comment on any leader.

No leader of the State, including Banerjee, figured in any manner during her speech at the meeting with Congress MLAs and other functionaries or during private discussion with them, Dasmunshi said.

She only urged Congressmen to unite and intensify their struggle to become an alternative to the ruling Left Front in West Bengal.

Gandhi's entire speech, Dasmunshi said, was also very categorical on the issue of corruption and the role of the BJP-led Government at the Centre.
