NEW DELHI, March 28: Janata Party president Subramaniam Swamy tonight said nothing would come out of the tea party to be hosted by him on Monday here in honour of AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha."The tea party has been arranged for Jayalalitha to meet non-BJP political party leaders. But out of this tea party, nothing will come out," he told a satellite television channel in an interview.Stating that the tea party had been visualised by him as a way for Jayalalitha to meet people other than the BJP "crowd", Swamy said it was the media hype and panic reaction by BJP and a section of the corporate world supporting it that created an impression that an attempt was being made to form a parallel dispensation.
"I am not being innocent. But the tea party is town tomorrow."Jayalalitha has no plan to meet Sonia Gandhi. But I have invited Sonia Gandhi to attend the tea party to meet Jayalalitha," he said.
Denying that he had ever stated that Jayalalitha would withdraw support to the BJP-led coalition, Swamy said hehad only stated she should withdraw support to the government but she should not do it unless an alternative dispensation was ready.
Asked about various deadlines set by him for the Atal Behari Vajpayee government to go, he said he had set only one deadline on August 15 and he came close to achieving it."I came close to it but that did not happen. I will write the reasons some day in my memoir," he said.
About his indications to the press that government would go any time, he said "I hope and am trying. Even Jayalalitha had said at the national press conference in the press club that she was reviewing support. I do not have any deadline. I want the government to go. I would like it to go yesterday."Stating that Jayalalitha was an astute politician, Swamy said her only interest was that Tamil Nadu should get maximum advantage from her party's participation in the government.
"Besides, she wants national interests, too, to be secured," he said.Referring to the controversy over sacked naval chief VishnuBhagwat, he said she was concerned about it as "national interests have been compromised"."As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, the day she knows that government can not deliver goods, I don't think she will have any hesitation (to withdraw support)," he added.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesman Ajit Jogi said his party would try to join hands with BJP allies, including AIADMK, to demand setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe the charges made by Bhagwat against Defence Minister George Fernandes.
Thamaraikani assault -- Ramadoss seeks FIR
CHENNAI: PMK founder S Ramadoss has demanded that an FIR be registered against those MLAs ``who had attacked the AIADMK Floor Leader in the Assembly, Thamaraikani and his colleague Karuppusamy.''
Addressing mediapersons at the end of his party's executive committee meeting held in the city on Sunday, he disapproved the imprisonment of Thamaraikani. Instead, he could have been suspended from the Assembly for six months, Ramadoss suggested. If thechief minister had initiated action against those who assaulted the AIADMK MLAs then ``I would have agreed that law was being maintained in the Assembly,'' he said.
Stating that there was no threat to the Central Government, he accused the Congress of trying to create confusion among the coalition partners.
However, the Congress efforts will not succeed, Ramadoss added.
