Poonawalla emerges fastest

MUMBAI, March 28: Neville Poonawalla emerged the fastest driver in the Maruti Autocross at the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) here today. He clocked the best time of 3 minutes 29.79 seconds in the Esteem General Class for unmodified vehicles to earn the tag of Fastest Driver of the day.Close on Poonawala's heels was Baroda's Ashish Doshi who clocked 3:29.99 minutes and was followed by Asif Shaikh (3:34.16).

Navaz Bathena was fastest among the ladies. Her time of 3:33.55 in the General Class for modified vehicles gave her the third place in the group.

BPT pip Customs: Bombay Port Trust (BPT) prevailed 2-1 over Bombay Customs in the first Karnatak Veterans football league, sponsored by Raja Radio Palace (Andheri), at the KSA ground, Churchgate, today.

The BPT forwards combined well and wrested the lead in the 10th minute. A pass by Newton Leitao saw Nasir Ahmed surge ahead and beat Customs 'keeper Constan Fernandes hands down.

Newton also did the spadework when Francis Fernandes scored with a neat placement to putBPT two-up. BPT defender Deepak Pal deflected the ball into his own goal following a corner taken by Customs' Albert Pinheiro.RCF claim title: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) defeated SBI 25-12, 25-16, 25-11 to emerge champions in the Bombay YMCA Callan Cup volleyball tournament held at Agripada.
