PUNE, March 28: Ajay Jadeja will captain India in the One-Day International cricket match against Sri Lanka at Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday. Skipper Mohammad Azharuddin has been ruled out because of a `niggling shoulder injury.'Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jaywant Lele confirmed this today on arrival at Pune. Lele said that the shoulder injury could keep Azhar out of action for at least a week. Azhar will not be available for the concluding league match of the Pepsi Triangular Series, against Pakistan at Mohali on April 1, Lele said. Local all-rounder Hrishikesh Kanitkar will fill the slot caused by Azharuddin's absence.Commenting on the decision to name Jadeja captain, team coach Anshuman Gaekwad said, ``Though this is a crucial match, Ajay has led India in the past, and was the ideal choice.''
Jadeja, speaking to The Indian Express, said the responsibility would put no pressure on him.
