Panchayat sports inaugurated

PANCHKULA, March 28: The assistant deputy commissioner of Panchkula, Anurag Aggarwal, inaugurated the second district-level Panchayat Sports at Sector-5 Parade ground here today. In the two-day event, teams from Barwala, Raipur Rani, Pinjore, and Morni block will be participating.

In his inaugural address, Aggarwal said that main aim of organising this event was to encourage the talented sportspersons from rural areas. He added that sports not only inculcated the qualities of obedience, dedication and team spirit in the participants but also helped in making them self-confident. He further expressed hope that teams from rural areas would perform well at the state and national level.

He assured that the Administration would provide every assistance to the sportspersons. He stressed upon the need to encourage girls to take to sports.City Magistrate M.S. Yadav said that this event was earlier held at the block level. The winning teams were selected for the state-level.

Kabaddi, Volleyball races, tug of war, shot-put and other sports events will be organised during the meet. The chief guest for the closing ceremony will be the deputy commissioner of Panchkula, Saroj Siwatch. The closing function will be held at 4 p.m. It may be noted here that the National Kabaddi Championship was held between Morni and Raipur Rani in which Raipur Rani had defeated Morni by 79 points.
