Yashpal, R P Singhstar in Haryana win

NEW DELHI, March 28: A 96-run second wicket partnership between former India batsman Yashpal Sharma (66: 10x4, 96b) and R P Singh (46: 6x4, 64b) in 22 overs and a fine spell of bowling by Raj Kumar (3 for 34) helped Haryana beat Uttar Pradesh by 43 runs in the final of the inter-state veterans championship which concluded at the Ferozeshah Kotla here today.

Electing to bat, Haryana made 184 for four in the stipulated 40 overs after losing two early wickets. An unbroken 50-run stand for the fifth wicket between N P Singh (29) and Balram Sharma (21) helped the team set a tough target for UP. Although UP made a decent start in their chase, they lost wicket at regular intervals and finished with 141 for nine.Brief Scores
Haryana: 184 for 4 in 40 overs (Yashpal Sharma 66, R P Singh 46, N P Singh 29 not out, Balram Sharma 21 not out, Gopal Sharma 1 for 35).
Uttar Pradesh: 141 for 9 in 40 overs (Tapan Das 28 not out, Sunil Chaturvedi 23, Sarvesh Mehrotra 20, Raj Kumar 3 for 34, Arun Sharma 2 for 20).
