VADODARA, April 5: The police last night raided the premises of a beauty parlour in the Polo Ground area, and arrested its owners on charges of displaying obscene literature and cheating people with false names.Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) Mohan Jha said the raid was conducted following a tip-off that the place was being used for `immoral activities' and no hair-cutting was done. People were being invited through advertisements for massages; they struck up a relationship with the girls and often went to a hotel.
The place was also rented to young boys and girls during Navratri, officials at the Navapura police said, adding that two highly obscene posters were seized from the premises.
According to Navapura PI S G Chaudhary, beside the owner, a medical officer in a government dispensary in a village in Padra taluka, and his wife, there were three girl employees in three separate rooms. One was performing a facial on a share-broker from Ahmedabad, while the others were massaging two engineers. The engineers told the police that they had come to the parlour as they were suffering from back pains.
A case under Sections 419 (cheating by false name), 292 (displaying obscene pictures) and 114 (abetment of crime) of IPC and Section 7(1) of the Bombay Provincial Act has been registered against the owners.
