NEW DELHI, April 5: Congress MLA from Delhi Cantonment, Kiran Choudhary, is all set to be the next deputy speaker of the Delhi Assembly. On the last day of filing nominations today, hers was the only name received by the Assembly secretariat.According to sources, a notification regarding her appointment as deputy speaker will be issued tomorrow. The post was held by Fateh Singh during the tenure of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Ironically, hours after the nominations were filed with Speaker Prem Singh today, the leader of the Opposition, Jagdish Mukhi, pointed out during special mention discussions that under parliamentary tradition, members of the Opposition should be made deputy speaker and chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.
