For women writers
A project to study contemporary writings in Marathi by women writers has been undertaken by the Sahitya Premi Bhagini Mandal. They have invited women writers to send them data on the literary formats that they use, publication dates, titles and publishing houses.

Rao honoured
Dr Saudamini Rao, activist and editor of Baija magazine has been chosen for the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Journalism Award instituted by Sarvangeen Vikas Sanstha of Latur. Rao, daughter of well-known thinker GB Sardar has been active in the feminist movement since 1975. She will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a memento.

Lighting the way
The city stands for honesty and it took Pune's women to light the way. On April 3, women organised a candlelit march to show support for recently transferred Municipal Commissioner Arun Bhatia and for greater transparency in public office.

Woman-in-law
Madhuri Sule has been elected the first woman president of the Labour Law Practitioners Association (LLPA). She is a practising lawyer and accepts management cases. She was the vice-president of LLPA. She plans to continue the lecture series started by LLPA and to improve the library of the labour court.

Centre for women's studies on the cards
Bharati Vidyapeeth proposes to start a special study centre for women's studies starting this June. Laws, regulations and schemes relating to women will be the focus of the study centre which will begin operating from June this year.
