PUNE, April 5: Anant Mate, honorary joint secretary, Maharashtra Cricket Association, who will accompany the Indian side as team manager for the Sharjah tournament, was recently felicitated at the hands of Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, R C Sharma, on his appointment.The felicitation function was organised on behalf of the present and former Ranji players, local cricket teams and clubs.In a brief speech, Mate asserted that the Indian team will not only win the series in Sharjah but was also confident that the World Cup too will come our way.
R C Sharma mentioned that Hrishikesh Kanitkar was successful in breaking the long drought of the presence of a Puneite in the Indian team and now with Mate's appointment, managerial responsibilities too have come our way.
Later eminent personalities, advocate Abhay Chhajed, Sunil Gudge, Avinash Ghatpande and associations like the Nehru Stadium Cricket Club, Umpire's Association, Income Tax Club, Star Club, Pune Sports Journalists Association, National Sports Trust presented bouquets to Mate, wishing him success.
