Citygritty -- Pune

Anisha, Aishwarya and Rasika
Two much!
"We're two!'' cries Pune Mid-day. ``Pune's most happening afternoon newspaper'' plans to celebrate its second anniversary in style, and they promise they will outdo last year's celebration - when Shiamak Davar, Pooja Bhatt, papa Mahesh and VJ Sophia Haque came to town.

This time, it will be a musical extravaganza that will feature performances by singer Abhijit and Bollywood star Mamta Kulkarni. The star attraction, they say, will be a celebrity quiz contest. All this will `happen' at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rang Manch on April 10 at 7.00 p.m.

So if you want to attend, cut out the coupon that will appear in the paper and go to the Mid-day office to get one of the 100 early-bird tickets that will be available from 3.00 to 5.00 p.m. everyday.

Apathy at large
"Wake up, folks,'' says concerned citizen Monica Basutkar. She called in to say that she was distressed to find a young bull lying near her house on Bhau Patil Road, apparently in great pain and suffering deeply. Her first action was to call the nearby Government Veterinary Polyclinic. This was only the start of the runaround she was to be given.

The doctor in charge said he would not be able to attend to the bull and gave her the number of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). Who told her that their van was too small and passed her on to one Ashok Shah. She ended up once again at the SPCA. And all the while, the bull suffered. The owner did finally claim it but by that time, sadly, the bull had died. A victim of indifference.

Critical eye
The creative act of painting can be a rewarding experience in itself. But like any creative activity, it thrives on critical appreciation. The 26 aspiring artists who form part of the SNDT's master's in fine arts course have organised an art exhibition of their work for this purpose.

The exhibition, to be held at the Bal Gandharva Kala Dalan, will feature around 70 paintings using water, oil and enamel as media. The students have explored various subjects like landscapes and still life. The four-day exhibition, which starts on April 8, will be inaugurated by Madhav Jog, managing director, Jog Engineering Ltd.

The hills are alive...
Come holidays and it's time to head for the hills. If you sign up for the five-day camp with the Panchgani Adventure Institute (PAI), then the hills come with the package. The PAI promises mature, experienced and responsible professionals to guide boys and girls (age 10 onwards), normally 30 in number, in adventure activities in camps held around Panchgani.

These include, among other things, rock-climbing, mountaineering, rappelling, river-crossing, horse-riding, rescue methods, rifle-shooting, self-defence, jungle survival and first-aid. Equipment for these activities will be provided by the management. Bookings for the camps, which are held in May and December, must be done at least two weeks in advance.

Do you understand?
How many times have we wondered if our language is actually effective? If we could learn to communicate better? Classes conducted by Mon Repertoire aim to do just that. Help students interested in improving their communication skills.

The five-week course, from April 26 to May 31, will also include lessons in drama and public-speaking - for children and adults. A certified trainer from the Trinity College of London, Mahrukh N. Bharucha, will conduct the class thrice a week for an hour and a half.
