West Bengal outwit Madhya Pradesh

NEW DELHI, April 7: West Bengal outplayed Madhya Pradesh 3-1 to enter the semi-finals of the sixth ESIC Football Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here today. Manas Chaudhary and Sajal Kumar Ghosh scored for the winners while Pamwar of MP reduced the margin.

In another match, Orissa humbled Mumbai 4-0. Mohammed Hassim scored a hat- trick. Headquarters Delhi also qualified for the semi-finals when they defeated Tamil Nadu 3-0. Shyam Thapa (2) and Hukam Bahadur Thapa scored for the winners.

Earlier, Delhi upset holders West Bengal 1-0. Surinder Singh Bisht scored the winning goal in the 21st minute by converting a panalty. Tamil Nadu thrashed Mumbai 5-0 and Madhya Pradesh beat Karnataka 2-1.

In chess, A. Joshi beat NK Jaiswal (Bihar) and Nandan Singh (Delhi) defeated Ashok Dattani (Bombay).
