Madan spins out South Delhi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 7: Fine spell of five for 10 by Haryana Ranji leg-spinner Rajinder Madan and a responsible 53 not out by Delhi Ranji player Ashu Dani saw J.N. Golden score a six-wicket victory over South Delhi and enter the quarter-final of the all-India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament at the Khalsa College ground here today.

Winning the toss, JN Golden put the opposition in on a lively wicket and the decision proved right as South Delhi batsmen struggled against a tight JN Golden bowling. Except for Raj Kapoor, who made a patient 31, none of South Delhi's batsmen could withstand the onslaught and wilted under the guile of Rajinder Madan to be bowled out for 103 in 29 overs. Besides Madan, Padamjeet Serhawat and Pankaj Malik also chipped in with two wickets each.

Chasing a modest total, JN Golden reached 106 with Dani remaining unbeaten on 52. Pankaj Malik (22) was the next major contributor. Ashish Malhotra captured two wickets for 25 runs.

Brief Scores: South Delhi: 103 (Raj Kapoor 31, Rajinder Madan 5 for 10, P. Sehrawat 2 for 25, P. Malik 2 for 22) lost to JN Golden (106 for 4: Ashu Dani 53 not out, P. Malik 22, A. Malhotra 2 for 25).
