Haryana party merges with Congress

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, April 8: Haryana Gana Parishad led by former Union minister Jai Prakash today merged with the Indian National Congress.

Jai Prakash and hundreds of his supporters were welcomed by AICC general secretary Pranab Mukherjee at the AICC headquarters. Prakash said the ruling coalition at the Centre has undermined the democratic and secular fabric of Indian polity.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhoopinder Singh Hooda, former chief minister Bhajan Lal, former Union minister Selja and a large number of Congress leaders were present on the occasion.

Jai Prakash said the decision of his party to merge with the Congress would strengthen the hands of Sonia Gandhi. He said the Congress alone under her leadership could provide a stable government at the Centre and strengthen the secular and democratic forces.
